Thirsty Thursday: Bloodlines Apples
Bloodlines Apples are the most important product for the Human Blood Doll in the Bloodlines game on Second Life. A fairly simple concept once you get the hang of it.

Gypsies, Vampires, Lycans and the Full Moon
The theories and stories surrounding vampires and lycans (werewolves) can be traced back to the 9th century as a result of Christianity and pre-Christian folklore. It is my belief that the Gypsies (having arrived in Romania just before Vlad Dracula was born in 1431) spread their stories of vampire and werewolf mythology in their travels throughout Europe up until the 18th Century.
According to Beverley Richardson, "The Slavic people including most east Europeans from Russia to Bulgaria, Serbia to Poland, have the richest vampire folklore and legends in the world. The Slavs came from north of the Black Sea and were closely associated with the Iranians. Prior to 8th century AD they migrated north and west to where they are now.
The origin of Slavic vampire myths developed during 9th C as a result of conflict between pre-Christian paganism and Christianity. Christianity won out with the vampires and other pagan beliefs surviving in folklore."
It has also been noted in the past that those who suffer from lycanthropy only come out on a full moon. The light during a full moon can exaggerate the effects of those suffering from this ailment and therefore, contribute to the hysteria surrounding it.
Whether you choose to believe in the vampires or werewolves, the modern day effects of the full moon are still being disputed and analyzed. The Scientific American questions if the lunacy effect really does exist. As part of role-playing and a public service, I am alerting my readers each time there is a full moon as well as the meaning and background of each full moon.

Christianization began almost as soon as they arrived in their new homelands. But through the 9th and 10th centuries the Eastern Orthodox Church and the western Roman Church were struggling with each other for supremacy. They formally broke in 1054 AD, with the Bulgarians, Russians, and Serbians staying Orthodox, while the Poles, Czechs, and Croatians went Roman. This split caused a big difference in the development of vampire lore - the Roman church believed incorrupt bodies were saints, while the Orthodox church believed they were vampires.

Thirsty Thursday: Human Blood Dolls (and their role in Bloodlines)
Lore
Traditional vampire lore describes humans who have agreed to feed a vampire or lycan regularly as a pomme de sang or "apple of blood". In Bloodlines, we call them Blood Dolls. The usual process is for the blood doll to liege to the vampire or lycan and to feed them exclusively. There is no limit as to how many blood dolls any given player can have. Blood dolls normally get permission from their liege before allowing anyone else to bite, claw or feed off of them.

Choosing Your HUD
Although most Bloodlines players choose to embrace the dark side and turn into a vampire or lycan, some want to remain human. The Human HUD would be ideal for those players. However, if at any point in your game play you would like to turn, save yourself the money and buy the Thirst HUD for vamps or the Rage HUD for lycans.

Things a Blood Doll CAN do:
- Use Invisibility on the Thirst HUD.
- Hunt for their liege. (Make sure to notify your liege of your intention first!)
- Hold souls though they don't count toward overall clan count. Thirst or Rage HUD required for this.
- Feed vampire, lycan or hybrid Bloodlines players.
Things a Blood Doll CANNOT do:
- Bite or claw, use howl, superhuman jump, or smoke screen (these require wearing fangs or claws).
Humanity
Blood dolls need to keep track of their humanity. For each bite or claw they receive, 5% of their humanity is taken. To replace the humanity, they can either eat a Bloodlines apple or drink Bloodlines cider. Normally the liege or whomever has bitten them is the one that supplies this. The Blood Doll is doing them a favor, they shouldn't have to pay for restoring their own humanity as well.

Blood Moon Rapture
Due to a wild rollercoaster series of events the past two weeks, I found myself without a clan. Nothing I had done personally, just a victim of circumstance. That sounds so dramatic. Ah, well.
Kumani and I scoured the Bloodlines page for potential clans we would like to join. After much debate, we decided we didn't want to be the new kids trying to fit in. We didn't want to adhere to others' rules and regulations. We didn't want to find out we had made a wrong choice and move on again. So, we created our own clan, Blood Moon Rapture.
We agreed we would share duties as Queen; Rick would be King and Laini the Crown Princess. After Kumani unlieged and set up the clan via her HUD, I created the group. She went with an sim agent, and established lands for us. I created a notecard to send to my minions as well as Rick's along with the landmark. Group invites were sent and that was that. The most amazing thing of all? Not one person left. In fact, we picked up a couple of new members. That thrills me beyond words.
Keith graciously offered to create our castle and other buildings for us. He is still in the process of building, but things are looking fantastic! His first build was too boxy and square, so he took it down, researched online, and is now on his second build for us. I know it will be worth the wait! After he finishes, we will celebrate with a party and work on our royals list. So many exciting things to come!

While Kumani's Away...
Laini often warns us that she will be left up to her own devices without supervision. A discussion ensued between the three of us; Laini proclaiming she needed to fuck black goats. While Kumani was away, I was left in charge of keeping Laini out of trouble and away from the goats. Avoiding the sex sims, we went shopping for new clan land decorations. Within seconds of landing, this is what we found:
Sorry Kumani!!! I tried! Come back soon! We miss you!!!

Thirsty Thursday: How to Join Bloodlines
Within the many role playing genres of the virtual world of Second Life, Bloodlines (BL) is one of the most popular. Now in its fourth year, over 46,000 characters have joined this macabre game system.
1. Create a Second Life Avatar
So, let's get started. First you will need to create your character on Second Life. Don't worry about which avatar you choose, you will be editing and changing it later. After going through the steps of creating a username, and the other aspects of setting up your account, you can then go through the process of joining Bloodlines.
Useful Vocabulary To Know:
- HUD- Heads Up Display. This item must be purchased in order to play the game of Bloodlines.
- Human/Blood doll- Beginning status for all Bloodlines players. Essential for the game overall.
- Liege- Mentor, helper, teacher, friend you choose to help guide you in your Bloodlines adventures.
- Lycan- A werewolf Bloodlines player.
- Lumens- The lycan equivalent of blood; moonlight.
- Vampire- A Bloodlines player with blood sucking sexiness.
- Hybrid- A Bloodlines player who is both vampire and lycan.
2. Choose a Liege and Clan
Not every Bloodlines player is nice. Many deceptive vampires and lycans prowl the new (noob) areas hoping for an easy target. Don't fall for the first one to talk to you. Be selective. You will be dealing with this person for the duration of your Second Life. Becoming one's liege is an honor. I also advise choosing a liege that speaks your language and plays Second Life about the same time you do.
Some players like to be given a tour of the vampire/lycan clan lands by the possible lieges before agreeing. These individuals will also be a major part of your Second Life experience. Not every clan is the same either. Some require heavy role playing, bowing to the royals, strict clothing rules, and regulating your activities outside of the clan. Be sure you are well-informed before you join!
3. HUD
After you choose a liege, the next process is buying the HUD. Which role (vampire, lycan or human) you choose determines which HUD is purchased. Each one is L$599 or about $2.85 US. I advise against the Human HUD in case you want to become a vampire or lycan later. Save yourself the money! Either you or your liege can purchase the HUD. Make sure this is determined beforehand. No need in starting out on the wrong foot. If you are still very young in the game, you might have to click the key grabber so the system can access your information. These are pyramid looking items near the Bloodlines vendors.
*Human, Lycan or Vampire*
4. Joining! Finally!
After dragging the HUD box to the ground, open it, copy the contents to your inventory. Access your inventory, and wear the HUD. Your liege will ask to bite you. It doesn't hurt I promise! You must agree to the animation in order to join. The first person to bite/claw you will then reap your virtual soul and become it's holder. It doesn't hurt you in any way. Remember, this is for role playing purposes. It's virtual (not real). The soul holder should be someone you trust (see #2). You will then set liege and clan using your HUD.
5. Setting Liege and Clan
On your HUD there is a small button that looks like a wheel. Click that and a drop down menu will appear. Depending on the HUD you are wearing, you will click clan (Thirst HUD), pack (Rage HUD) or group (Human HUD). Then click Set Liege. Your choice for liege should still be nearby. Pledge your allegiance to them and TADA! Your adventures can begin!

Lola
I met Lola back in 2009 when we were both noobs in Divine. We shared a bond of MM boards and free Neko clothing. Over the years we have been in and out of each other's Second Life. I've always admired her strength and level-headed attitude. She is also a fantastic builder making beautiful clothing and party platforms. When it was time for me to leave Divine she welcomed me to her horde with open arms. I will always be thankful for her sound advice and reassurance when I'm in doubt. Surprising thing about Lola is her incredible wit. She is hysterical! I love you, Lola.

Laini
Laini. Oh that one word says it all. Such a strong personality, that woman. Deeply private of her rl, she is fiercely loyal if you are lucky enough to be allowed into her world. One of my dearest friends and the one to call upon when you want to do something naughty. She never judges, never questions, just says "let's do it." Laini and I both joined Divine about the same time back in the fall of 2009. One of my early memories of her was after Rick scripted one of her tails she had me test it. I touched it and instantly was giving her a rim job. I cringed. We laughed and laughed about that. In February 2010, we both streaked at Cari's wedding and a bond was made. Oh how she loves to rebel and cause a stir! She drained the last bit of blood from me at my turning and helped make me a vampire. Over time, I have been her liege and in turn her grand minion now. I love you my Lainipie.

"A good friend is a connection to life- a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world." ~ Lois Wyse
In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, for in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." ~ Kahlil Gibran

Kumani
Where to begin about Kumani? My mind is filled with so many memories and overwhelmed with emotion when I think of her. She is my shelter from the rain, my voice of reason, my sounding board, my fashion consultant, my tarot card reader, my sister witch. She keeps me grounded when I get too high and encourages me to soar when I put myself down. She came to me as a gift in Bloodlines in November 2009. Britney was out hunting and brought her back for Daisy. Daisy suggested to give her to me since we were both Americans and on at the same time. Kumani had just removed the garlic right before Britney approached her and wanted to see what the vampires were all about. I believe there are no coincidences in life and we were destined to meet. I became her liege and she in turn became my best friend. She bloomed and blossomed and moved on to become a Crown Princess in her own right. We remained inseparable friends though our clans were different. I love you, Kumani.
"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes
out. It is then burst into flame by an
encounter with another human being. We
should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." ~Albert Schweitzer
"But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can
speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most
foolish thoughts come out simply and safely.
Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a
person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them
all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a
faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then
with the breath of kindness blow the rest away."
~Dinah Craik, A Life for a Life, 1859
"There is magic in long-distance friendships. They let you relate to other human beings in
a way that goes beyond being physically together and is often more
profound." ~Diana Cortes
